Click here to vote in the Total Politics Best Blogs Poll 2010

Although far from perfect, the Total Politics Best Blogs guide is an opportunity to promote left voices to a wider audience. I am therefore urging Socialist Unity readers to vote, obviously I would also like you to vote for Socialist Unity! All votes must be cast before midnight on July 31st 2010.

The rules for the contest this year say that we cannot recommend a slate of other blogs to vote for, but you may wish to consider some of the promising newcomers, like Left Futures and Salma Yaqoob, and also ensure that women bloggers like Madam Miaow, Harpy Marx, Rupa Huq, Black Looks, Penny Red, Bethan Jenkins, Susan Press, Grace Fletcher Hackwood, and Leanne Wood do not get overlooked in this usually testosterone soaked contest.

The rules are simple.

1. You must vote for your ten favourite blogs and ranks them from 1 (your favourite) to 10 (your tenth favourite).

2. Your votes must be ranked from 1 to 10. Any votes which do not have rankings will not be counted.

3. You MUST include at least FIVE blogs in your list, but please list ten if you can. If you include fewer than five, your vote will not count.

4. Email your vote to toptenblogs@totalpolitics.com

5. Only vote once.

6. Only blogs based in the UK, run by UK residents or based on UK politics are eligible. No blog will be excluded from voting.

7. Anonymous votes left in the comments will not count. You must give a name

8. All votes must be received by midnight on 31 July 2010. Any votes received after that date will not count.Email your top ten blogs now to toptenblogs@totalpolitics.com .

If you have any queries about any aspect of this year’s blog poll or book, please email jake.mitchell@totalpolitics.com .

  6. I am somewhat suspicious that the voting method is by email. After all a lot of sites on the Internet are simply there to collect personal information about people. And one useful piece of information is users email address.
I do not know who Total Politics are and it is probable that they are just naive. But really a better method could have been devised. Giving away personal information can lead to spam and fraud. Even if that is not the intent here it is still encouraging bad usage of the Internet. A political organisation – even if informal – should know better.
For this reason I shall not be voting. And I would encourage others not to give away personal information.

  7. Five blogs minimum! Who has time to visit more than about two? This beauty contest seems pretty pointless but is typical of the competitive society we live in. I’d rather vote for the best software synthesizer of the year at TOTALGEEK than vote on WHICHPOLITICS?

Yes, you are naive, it is Iain Dale behind it, and I am sure he couldn’t give a toss about your e-mail address, and he would also abide by the legal provisions of Data Protection Act
