Free access to socialist newspaper
BRITAIN’S only socialist daily reached another milestone today as the Morning Star website went free for the first time, allowing millions access to the real stories behind the headlines.
The man behind the transformation, Morning Star webmaster Carl Worswick, said that it was a “big, bold step.”
“This is something that I have been pushing for for some years and will allow millions of new readers to see behind the lies of the right-wing press.
Personally I think the Star does a great job, I am going to be writing for it, buying it and spreading the word…please spread the word as well if you are committed to socialism!

Brilliant what more can I say, enjoy.

Thanks for the plug Derek, although I should point out that my articles for the Star are not specifically slanted to what some readers of this blog might think of as a Trotskyist viewpoint, but rather a wider labour and marxist historical angle in my capacity as convenor of the London Socialist Historians Group. I also occasionally mention beards and real ale, not ,unfortunately, matters that seem to interest visitors to this site.

Hi Keith,
I think the point as we both know is that the Morning Star provides plenty of different voices, which I think is almost unique for a left newspaper…now it is online it will be easier to plug you of course.

Just had a look at it and while it is useful to be able to get it on-line disappointingly, as far as I can see, it doesn’t have an associated blog or the facility to leave comments on leading stories or opinion pieces which is essential for an on-line paper in this day and age. The `liberal’ press have these facilities. That said, good luck to MS’s on-line initiative and I hope they are planning to include the facilities outlined above in the near future.

The “Star” has been one of the most boring papers on the left for years.
It’s improved a bit since the stalinists self-destructed.
One of its more positive features being that it’s a daily paper which reaches parts that other sections of the left press don’t: newsagents, garages etc.
For years it’s failed to attract many new younger readers though.
The “Star’s” new internet presence is a belated recognition of the growing importance of electronic media, which surely must now surely have a much wider readership than print.
But it’s also important to reinforce the principle of regular payment and personal contact with paper distributors.
Socialist organisations are letting this habit slip which is tending to disorganise their periphery.

Well, the Morning Star is certainly much more honest than Socialist Worker in its latest coverage of the Gaza protests. SW continues its Pravda-like coverage of all things close to George Galloway by pretending he doesn’t exist. Apparently he did not merit a mention as one of the MPS present at the demo yesterday, merited no mention in the organ of the revolutionary working class for inspiring the breakaway to the Israeli embassy and, despite a press release from no less than Stop the War about the police assault on him and his daughter, only Chris Nineham apparently could be found to be interviewed about the confrontation with the police in Knightsbridge. This is pretty much typical of these sectarian numpties. There has been no International Socialist Organisation doing anything in America since the SWP leadership fell out with them about something no-one can now remember several years ago.
