ROYAUME UNI NUL POINTS

Filed under: Europe, TV — Andy Newman @ 11:20 am

Last Saturday’s Eurovision song contest saw a repeat of the now ritual humiliation of the UK entry, indeed Britain was only permitted to take part in the final because we didn’t have to qualify.

Splintered Sunrise makes the very good point that the so-called “political” voting is more linked to questions of shared culture and taste, otherwise it is not entirely obvious why Croatia and Albania, for example, should vote for Serbia.

But the tangible distaste that the western European countries have for the new expanded Eurovision was summed up by the open mockery of the Irish entry. It is all somehow beneath us now.
