Such blatant examples of attempted character assassinations by the press simply won’t wash anymore. The Sun’s false triumphalism in 1992 and the self-parodying quality of the Mail, Express etc. have simply disseminated the nature of corporate media far more than left-wing critiques of their influence over politics ever could have.

Obviously the media will always have an institutional bias, but they have to watch how *they* are perceived far more now - the alternative is to titillate the prejudices of their own readerships while declining sales and influence leave them sidelined from mainstream politics.

I feel no sympathy whatsoever for Gordon Brown. Both he and Tony Blair were keen to suck up to Murdoch and the Sun when it suited them. Blair flew half way round the world at one point to get Murdoch’s backing for New Labour. The Sun is to newspapers what pit bull terriors are to dogs and I for one feel no sympathy to see Gordon Brown getting his hand bit. Let’s not forget New Labour’s courting of a newspaper which called miners scum, which lied about Liverpool football fans at Hillsborough and is in general a racist anti-trade union rag!

Yes I agree with your comment.

As a minor aside my handwriting is pretty untidy too, but so what.

One problem with this poll is that it was conducted by e-mail, which of course limits it’s respondents to those with access to a PC, laptop (or some mobiles).
Nevertheless it is further proof that the trash media does have it’s limits.
